The Marvel-Disney collaboration Deadpool & Wolverine has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, pulling in over $1.029 billion by the end of this past weekend. The film, which has captivated audiences worldwide, has grossed $535.2 million internationally and $494.3 million domestically, culminating in a staggering $1.0295 billion total.

This achievement places Deadpool & Wolverine in rarefied air, as it becomes only the second U.S. R-rated film to reach the billion-dollar milestone, following in the footsteps of 2019’s Joker. However, the Marvel threequel is on track to surpass Joker’s $1.079 billion gross by the end of the week, which would crown it as the highest-grossing R-rated film globally.

Notably, Deadpool & Wolverine reached this milestone at a faster pace than Joker, which did not benefit from a release in China. This film marks Disney’s second billion-dollar hit of the year, following the success of Inside Out 2. It’s also one of only two movies in 2024 to reach this box office milestone.

The success of Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2 underscores Disney’s unique position as the only studio with back-to-back billion-dollar releases in a single year. Out of the 55 films that have crossed the $1 billion threshold globally, Disney is responsible for 31, including three titles from Fox. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) boasts 11 of these billion-dollar films, further solidifying Marvel Studios as a box office powerhouse.

During its third weekend, Deadpool & Wolverine maintained its No. 1 spot among non-local movies in key markets such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, and Mexico. The film generated $57.8 million over the weekend, showcasing a strong hold with just a 48% drop in revenue.

The film’s top international markets to date include China ($54.8 million), the UK ($54.4 million), Mexico ($38.2 million), Australia ($31.3 million), Germany ($25.5 million), France ($23.6 million), Brazil ($22.1 million), Spain ($18.9 million), India ($17.9 million), and Italy ($15.6 million).

Deadpool & Wolverine has also performed exceptionally well in IMAX, with a global gross of $78 million, making it the sixth-best result for an MCU title in this premium format.

Since its debut three weeks ago, Deadpool & Wolverine has consistently outpaced expectations, launching with a $444 million global opening. By last Wednesday, the film had already surpassed the total box office earnings of its predecessors, Deadpool and Deadpool 2, on domestic, international, and global scales.

With its current momentum, Deadpool & Wolverine is not just breaking records—it’s rewriting them, setting a new standard for R-rated films and solidifying its place in box office history.
